Half the Church

We are:

Half the Church is a coalition of Christian leaders working to change both what the church believes about who can lead and how it actually raises, hires, and sends leaders, so that the whole body is finally empowered, not just half

the name:

‘half the churc'h’ comes from Carolyn Custis James, and it’s a simple fact: women make up more than half the church. Half the Church is a coalition of pastors, lay leaders, church planters, historians, poets, and journalists who share one longing, to see the American church empower its whole body (not just half of it). We believe lasting change takes work on two fronts. Culture shifts the unspoken assumptions about who is suited to lead and  Strategy, building the concrete pathways, in hiring, mentorship, succession, leadership pipelines, and church planting, that turn conviction into something durable. A changed mind without a system fades. A system without a changed mind gets ignored. We’re building both.

It begins each year with a gathering, and it continues all year through three commitments:

It begins each year with a gathering, and it continues all year through three commitments:

our Three Commitments:

  • COHORTS - these are for both men and women, where church leadership teams learn how to create a culture and pipeline that assumes women are leading within the church

  • MICRO-GRANTS - These put real funding behind women’s ministries, church plants, and continued education that too often go unresourced.

  • COACHING SUPPORT - Support that walks with leaders over time, so a good idea becomes a sustainable ministry.

Because lasting change takes more than a single weekend. It takes a shift in the church’s heart, and the systems to make that shift last.
